We had a bridge raising Sunday morning at 2AM! Three of the girders supporting the southbound lanes of the main Chappaqua Bridge arrived. The contactors had three hours to put all three in place before MetroNorth started train service again Sunday morning.
I was there on the town’s behalf to photograph an video the event. Quite an event – especially when the longest girder was 145 feet.

Block Island - House by Southeast Light
I’m working with a local Block Island architect to create a series of photographs and a web site to document his work.
This house was designed and built about six years ago. It sits just east of the Southeast Light (a famous Block Island landmark), and has incredible views to the east over the Atlantic.
The photograph is a sandwich of 5 photographs using Photomatrix Pro, then finished in Lightroom.

Hurricane Bob just barely brushed Block Island. This is a view from the beach below Mohegan Bluffs (on the south side of the island). Eight to ten foot waves, but not much wind.
Photography is a HDR from five exposures.
Summer program at the high school
Families in Chappaqua and the high school host a summer program for kids from the Bronx. They have classes on Shakespeare, computers, writing in the morning, then film school in the afternoon at the Jacob Burns center. Quite an opportunity for them. I was invited to give a lecture on robotics, UAVs, etc. to the class – and, of course, a demo of the Draganfly. This photo of the class was shot at about 75 feet altitude.

We just did some aerial photographs of the Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, New York. They had their tent set up for graduation.
This was taken using a small UAV helicopter and a Panasonic Lumix digital camera.
APRS for iPhone
I’m working on my second application for Apple’s iPhone – an APRS (Automated Packet Reporting System) that takes location data from one of the many APRS servers and displays it on a map on your iPhone. Many amateur radio operators update APRS with location information, as well as NOAA warnings, etc. For more information on APRS go to their web site.
Phase one of the project will enable you to use the GPS position from your iPhone (or an entered one if you’re using an iPod Touch) and display any APRS contacts in a selected radius (1, 5, 10, 30 miles) from your current location. The contacts will be displayed on a Google Map with all the usual navigation (zoom, move, etc). You’ll need a active WiFi or 3G connection for it work.
Phase two will likely add the ability to publish your own location to an APRS server.
